ADD ADHD Help
If you believe you or a family member has ADD ADHD Attention Deficit Disorder, you should make an appointment with a qualified ADD ADHD specialist.
Don’t let your child’s day care center or classroom teacher or school principal diagnose your child with attention deficit disorder.
Don’t rush to send your child to a doctor suggested by the teachers, principals, or counselors at your child’s school or day care center.
Find your own independent specialist yourself.
The reason is that in some parts of the country ADD ADHD is a “fad disease.”
Teachers tell parents that their children will become better students and have fewer discipline problems if they take certain ADD ADHD drugs.
In certain inner city schools in our country, almost half the boys under 12 years old are taking Ritalin. The use of these drugs on so many children is controversial.
You don’t want to take medicine unless you or your child really has the ADHD disorder.
People who have attention deficit disorder have differences in their brain function. Their MRI brain scans look different from those of normal brains. Drugs CAN help this brain disorder.
However, if you or your child does not have this medical disorder, than you don’t want to take drugs. Drugs will not turn them into good students.
Attention Deficit Disorder is a catchall term for several kinds of disorders, like:
Each of these is a different disorder.
For example, girls with ADD ADHD Inattentive often show no restless behaviors, but they do not perform well in school because they can’t concentrate.
These girls appear spacey to others and daydream a lot.
On the other hand, the classic case of the ADD ADHD Impulsive is a boy who can’t sit still, can’t pay attention in class, speaks out of turn, and can’t control his fidgeting.
Each of the disorders listed above is different and requires different treatments. ADD ADHD disorders can even be caused by head injuries.
The best treatment usually involves a combination of medicine and therapy.
The doctor specializing in ADD ADHD will want to monitor your drugs and see you regularly.
You should not go there and get a running prescription with no follow up for drugs.
You can explain to your doctor that you or your child is having problems performing at work or school, and you suspect ADD ADHD.
If you don’t qualify for government assistance and do not have health insurance, you may have problems getting a doctor to treat you or your child.
Try making an appointment with a specialist in ADD ADHD and pay for the treatment yourself.
If you can’t afford the treatment, try going to a large state university with a medical school. They will often provide care on a sliding fee basis.
