To The Point Information On ADHD
Here's a letter recently written to an acquaintance about information on ADHD...
Dear Susan:
Thanks for your recent letter. I'm sorry to hear about the information on ADHD problems you've been having with your children... John and Suzi and their ADD ADHD.
I know what your going through and you'd like information on their ADHD. Isn't it amazing the problem's child ADHD and adult ADHD can cause (and are causing)...in people's lives these days.
I personally believe it's worse than its ever been. I'm sure there have always been people with child ADHD and adult ADHD throughout history. But I believe it's worse these days.
Here's why I think that.
Everyone is so busy today. That's exactly the opposite of what an ADD ADHD should have to go through.
For example...city life. The city will draw an add adhd to it (like a moth to a light), because of the excitement and the many different things going on. The problem is... that's exactly opposite someone with add adhd needs. It's this excitement that makes it much worse for them. Always wound up.
Anyway, you asked my opinion of what you should do to help you and your children with your guys add adhd. Before I do though, although you probably already know this...let me give you some background about me and my children...Ron and Melissa.
We all have ADD ADHD as you're aware of.
I have ADD ADHD. I didn't know it for most my life until Ron and Melissa were diagnosed with it in school. In spite of that, I didn't need a doctor telling me that I had problems. I always had problems in school and with studying. I barely passed in high school. Although I did do better in grade school. Looking back at it now...I followed the add adhd profile.
I did better in grade school because the subjects were easier and I was able to squeak by. Of course in high school with the more difficult subjects and term papers and essays, etc., the task became daunting and I couldn't do it. Result? mostly "D" grades....Typical add adhd profile.
I just couldn't concentrate on anything. I would seriously try to study something and I could...for maybe 15 minutes. Then, my mind would wander and before I knew it nothing got accomplished.
A great example was flying. As long as I could remember, I wanted to learn to fly. So when I was 16, I worked on weekends to afford one hour of flight lesson a week. I did great flying.
The problem was, I couldn't study. I remember my flight instructor being so angry at me for not knowing any of the study material. Something I should have known.
As a matter of fact, it was the same way that my son... Ron...in school. Unfortunately, we didn't know anything about ADD ADHD when he was in grade school, and we deprived him of the help he needed. To make you it understand, though....it was different for my daughter... Melissa. Yet, her's was also a typical profile for someone with add adhd... just a different type of one.
You see, for intelligent girls, (which she is) and not being hyper, which she also is, her add adhd never got noticed. She did very well in grade school until high school, at which time, her add adhd became more apparent.
That's when we had her tested for ADD ADHD after discovering Ron had add adhd.
Anyway, to make a long story, short. I have add, my son, has ADD and my daughter also. But that's not surprising. ADD ADHD is heritary from parent to child. Susan..there are different aspects where someone with ADD ADHD can be helped.
There are doctor's and specialists of course. Expensive though. Most therapist's charge about $120.00 for a 45 minute session. That could end up costing you a lot of money. I've written a resource I believe will help you and your children with their add adhd. What I've done is taken my life experiences to figure out how to get around add adhd.
So it works FOR you...not against you. For instance...to become an airline pilot...(which requires alot of studying and reading.).
I was able to do that because I was able to hyperfocus and accomplish whatever was needed to be done...including reading and studying. It shows techniques my children used to work around their add adhd.
For instance, my son is a professional tennis instuctor. (which, by the way is an excellent job for someone with add adhd). The reason is... being an instructor is a job that changes and varies throughout the day. An absolute necessity for someone with add adhd). Another thing he adapted well to (again, because it varies a lot), was the Boy Scouts. In fact, he received his Eagle Rating.
He's instucted at a couple 5 star resorts in Paradise Island, Bahamas and Dubai, UAE...a popular vacation spot for Europeans. All before he was 22 years old. He's now in the process of going to college while instructing full time tennis at an expensive tennis club. My daughter is on the dean's list at a major university, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She loves school AND even likes studying! Now that's hard to believe...but believe me, its true.
Susan...I wish I had information like this when my son was in grade school or early high school.
So, bottom line...is there information available to help you and your children with their add adhd? Yes. This resource will point you in the right direction...give you valuable ideas and daily techniques you can really use. It's nice to know you're not alone and there is help.
Susan, thanks again for emailing me. I'm sorry it took 4 days to respond to you. But you know how it is these days. Never enough time. Aren't all the new devices..like computers, appliances, etc supposed to giving us more time...not less?
Take care. Write again if you have any questions. I'm always here...willing to help you in anyway I can.
Have a good day.
Your friend, Ron Rougeaux
